Add AI to a conversation

Use an AI block to answer open questions or make decisions inside your chatbot.

When to use this. Visitors ask open-ended questions that a fixed set of buttons cannot answer.

What you’ll need. A chatbot, plus an account and API key with an AI provider.

  1. Decide what the AI is for

Choose a narrow job, such as answering questions about your services or classifying a request. Keep required questions in normal input blocks so the flow stays in your control.

  2. Add an AI block

In the Integrations section of the sidebar, choose a provider block. The editor includes OpenAI, Anthropic, Mistral, Together AI, OpenRouter, Dify.AI, ChatNode, Zemantic AI, and ElevenLabs for voice. Which providers appear depends on your deployment.

  3. Connect your provider account

Add a new account in the block and enter the API key from your provider. Requests use your own provider account, so that provider’s pricing and limits apply.

  4. Write clear instructions

Give the block a system message that says what the assistant is for and what it must not do. Send the visitor’s answer as a variable and save the reply in a variable so a Text bubble can show it. For back-and-forth chat, the OpenAI chat completion action offers a Dialogue message type that passes earlier messages back.

  5. Test with real questions

In the preview, try normal, off-topic, and awkward questions. Check that answers stay on topic and that a failed call does not leave the visitor stuck. After publishing, See logs in Results shows what went wrong in a step.

How to know it worked

A test question gets a relevant AI reply that the visitor sees, and a failed call is visible in the logs.
